How can I apply for GED testing accommodations?

Follow these steps to apply for GED testing accommodations:


  1. Go to ged.com and click “Sign Up” in the top right corner of the screen if you don’t already have an account. Enter your email address and password, and answer the required questions to create your account. 
  2. If you already have an account on ged.com, click the "Log in" button in the top right corner of the screen. 
  3. In your ged.com account, go to your account profile. It will appear as your initials in the top right corner of the screen.  
  4. Click on the “Accommodations" button.
  5. The screen will ask, “Do you need modified testing (accommodations) for the day of your test?” If you have a documented disability, select “Yes, I have a documented disability and want to request an accommodation.”
  6. Click the “Continue” button. 
  7. If you have not yet finished setting up your GED account profile, go to “Step 1” in the box, select “Finish Profile,” and answer a few questions. 
  8. When your profile is complete, go to “Step 2” to create an account on the GED Test Accommodations System.
  9. Click “Create an Account” on the right side of the screen. 
  10. Fill out the information in the required fields.
  11. Check the boxes for Terms of Service and Privacy Policies.
  12. Click the “Continue” button at the bottom of the page.
  13. Next, verify your email address. The email can take up to 15 minutes to arrive in your inbox. 
  14. You can now return to the candidate login section, where you can log in to your account on the GED Test Accommodations System using the email address and password that you used to create your account. Once you input your login information, select “Sign In.” 
  15. Click the button that says “Start A New Request Here.”
  16. The drop-down box should say “GED” as your exam program. Select the “Continue” button.
  17. There will be another “Continue” button to click to confirm the exam for which you are applying for testing accommodations.
  18. Click “Request Type” to select the disability category.
  19. On the right-hand side of the same page, click “Request Item” to select the kind of accommodations that you would like to apply for. For example, extra time, a separate testing room, etc. 
  20. Go to the “Request Rationale” box and type the reason why you would like the testing accommodation. 
  21. If you would like to request more than one type of testing accommodation, click the plus sign button on the right-hand side of the box. (This is optional.)
  22. When you finish your request(s), click the “Continue” on the right side of the screen.
  23. If you would like to give the Pearson VUE Accommodations team permission to speak with someone else on your behalf, provide their name, email, relationship, and phone number. This is optional. If you would like the team to only speak to you, skip the “Permitted Contact List” and click the “Continue” button on the right-hand side of the screen.
  24. Review the supporting documentation guidelines on the screen.
  25. Answer the three questions. If your documentation aligns with the guidelines, select the box that says “I agree.” If your documentation does not align with the statements, leave it unchecked. 
  26. Click the “Continue” button.
  27. Go to the “Upload” column and select the upload icon to upload your supporting documentation.
  28. To upload your document, you can either select "Choose File" and click on the name of the file you'd like to upload, or you can drag and drop a document from your desktop into the file upload box. 
  29. Click the “Save” icon on the top right corner of the box or the bottom left corner of the box. 
  30. If you have more than one document, click “Upload Additional Documents.”
  31. Upload your documents and click the “Save” icon. 
  32. If you prefer to fax your documents instead of uploading them, go to the “My Forms” box and click the magnifying glass icon found under the “View” column for instructions. 
  33. Optional: If you want to ask the Pearson VUE Accommodations team a question, click the “Send a Message” button. You can cancel your request by clicking on the “Cancel Request” button.
  34. When your application is completed, click the “Submit” button in the bottom right corner of the screen. 
  35. Once your accommodations request has been submitted, you will receive an email from the accommodations team with a link to check your application status.

Follow these steps to check the status of your application: 


  1. Log in to ged.com and click "My Accommodations" at the top of the screen, or click the link in the email from the Accommodations team. 

  2. From there, you will be taken to the login page for the GED Accommodations request system. Enter your username and password. 
  3. Click the “Sign in” button.
  4. There will be a screen with a list of your accommodation requests. 
  5. Go to the left-hand side of the box to access the status of your request, and hover over the symbols to access more information about each status of your request.
  6. If you need to edit your profile, go to the button in the left-hand corner of the screen and click “Edit Profile.” You can change your email address, phone number, or address here by clicking the “Add” or “Delete” icon. Click the “Continue” button to change your settings. 
  7. If you need to change your password, go to the left-hand corner of the screen and click “Change Password.” Enter your previous password, then enter your new password twice. From there, click the “Save” button.

Tips for Testing Accommodations:


  • You will receive an email from the GED Accommodations team anytime your accommodation request changes. 

  • It can take 30 days for an application to be processed.

  • Examples of test accommodations include extra time, breaks, a separate room, large print, a Braille test, a scribe or aide for keyboard entry, and sign language interpretation.
