HiSET Test Tools That Don’t Require an Accommodations Application:

  • Transparent overlays.

  • Scratch paper (at the end of the test, the scratch paper will be collected by test center personnel.)

  • Earplugs that are not attached to an electronic device.

  • Plain, unmarked straightedge - this can help keep your place while reading. You can use a piece of scrap paper for this purpose - it needs to be returned by the end of the test.

  • Handheld magnifying device. It needs to be non-electronic without memory or a camera.

  • Seat cushion, back pillow, or footstool. Before and after testing, this will be inspected by test center personnel.

  • Service animals.

  • Medical devices such as an asthma inhaler, hearing aid, pacemaker, oxygen tank, TENS stimulator, and an insulin pump set to vibrate or silent.

  • Highlighter or black felt pen to be used only for essays and scratch work.

  • Prescription medication. The pills need to be unwrapped and not in a bottle/container. If the packaging states they MUST remain in the packaging, then the test takers may bring pills that are still in the packaging. For example, nitroglycerin pills cannot be exposed to air. The packaging will be inspected by test center personnel, and an Incident Report will be submitted.
